Buxton Festival is held during the first three weeks of July. It is recognised internationally as one of the UK’s leading arts festivals. The festival is a celebration of the very best opera, music and literature.
After a successful season in 2023, the festival is back in 2024 with 5 eagerly awaited operas.

Opera: Verdi’s Ernani, Handelks Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, an adaptation of Bizet’s Carme, The Boatswain’s Mate by Ethel Smith and Joseph Haydn’s La Canterina

Venues
There are events and performances in several venues around the town. All worth a visit in their own right;
The beautiful Buxton Opera House, a 900 seat, Frank Matcham designed theatre that dates back to the early 20th century
The neighbouring Pavilion Arts Centre
St Johns Church, built in the early 19th century at the request of the Duke of Devonshire and renown for its excellent acoustics
